Charity work and life of Dick DeVos

Richard Marvin Dick DeVos Jr. often referred to as Dick DeVos refers to an American businessperson. This is in addition to being an author with a Michigan origin. Being the son to Richard DeVos who is the co-founder of Amway, he worked at the position of the CEO of the company dealing with the consumer’ goods distribution. He served in the position between the year 1993 and 2002.

It was in the year 2006 when he ran for the Governor’s position of Michigan. The outcome was that DeVos lost it to Jennifer Granholm who was the Democratic incumbent then. It was in the year 2012 when his father was listed by the Forbes magazine to be the sixty-seventh richest individual in the United States in possession of about $5.1 billion.

DeVos wife is Betsy Devos who currently serves as the eleventh Secretary of Education of the United States.

Looking at his family and life, his life started in Grand Rapids in Michigan where he was born to the family of Richard Marvin Marvin Devos and Hellen June (Van Wesep). He graduated from the system of the Forest Hills public school. This happened prior to his involvement in the business of the family from the time he was a child.

Looking at his educational attainments, he is a graduate of Northwood University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. This attainment happened prior to his joining the Harvard School of Business then the Executive Study Programs of the Wharton School. Notably, he has attained honorary doctorates from the Grove City College, Northwood University, and the Central Michigan University. Additionally, he earned the recognition of outstanding alumni from the Northwood University.

Dick DeVos serves as the President to the Dick and Betsy DeVos Foundation. This refers to a (Grand Rapids) area Foundation which has enhanced the donations of several millions of dollars to the civic, the religious, artistic, the educational, the community as well as the free-market economic establishments beginning from the year 1990. The beneficiaries of the grants that they offer include the Kids Hope USA, the West Michigan Aviation Academy, the Thunderbird School of Global Management, the Mars Hill Bible Church and the American Education Reform Council.

The establishment of the Dick and Betsy DeVos Scholarship program happened in the year 2008. It was initiated by Dick and the wife. This is meant to offer to the students from the developing nations entering MA, MBA or MS.
